In honor of the mothers in our lives, we asked some of our favorite bartenders for their own recipes inspired by them. Enjoy these in a toast at home, or better yet, treat mom to a sip at the bar. Cheers!
GEMMA
by Selene Martinez of Big Bar, Los Angeles CA
“Named after my sweet mother and inspired by her and her mother (my gram); my mom is the oldest of seven and one of 4 girls. My gram planted a different colored rose bush for each girl starting with my mom and the white rose bush. Ever since, my mom only ever receives white roses on any special occasion. The cocktail will be in a coupe at Big Bar but the glass seen in the photos is my gram's crystal coupe glasses that I am the happy owner of.”
RECIPE:
1¼ oz Pomp & Whimsy Gin Liqueur
½ oz gin
½ oz aqua di cedro
¾ oz grapefruit cordial
¾ oz lemon
4 d grapefruit bitters
CARMEN
by Jasel Cardona of Sweet Afton Bar, Astoria NY
“Being of Puerto Rican heritage the mojito is staple of the beautiful island. It was only natural for me to gravitate to my roots when approaching a cocktail creation that reminds me of my mother. This mojito inspired Pomp & Whimsy cocktail is dedicated to my mom Carmen, and all of the other amazing mothers out there!
The florals and perfumes naturally compliment the earthiness of the mint. Pomp & Whimsy is special all on its own, very little dressing up is needed.”
RECIPE:
1 ½ oz Pomp & Whimsy Gin Liqueur
¾ oz lime
½ oz agave
6 mint leaves
club soda
Add all ingredients to shaker tin and strain into a wine glass filled with ice. Top with club soda. Garnish with mint bouquet.
