Make a drink for women’s month? Hold the mic. We’re about to drop that! Not only do we try our best to source most of our products and spirits from only the finest of women in the game—we like to think we are some of them, too! As a female-oriented duo in this industry, we enjoyed this challenge— BIG TIME (anything to drink more gin, right?). Taking inspiration from the beautiful paintings of one of the world’s greatest artists, Ms. Georgia O’Keeffe, and blending that with sourced ingredients from our local female-owned apothecary (as we see it) Sullivan Tea & Spice Co., we meshed together with a colorful creation we call “Keepin’ it Whimsy” that highlights some of our favorite, collaborative genius women who have really made our world go round. Our artist, who spent many years creating in New York, is most commonly known for her very feminine approach in floral, modernist paintings—which have become iconically praised in the LGBTQIA+ community. “Pink Tulips” is a gorgeous representation of all that is the month of March: creation, new beginnings, offering of life anew. Utilizing sweet Persian cucumber, baby rosebuds and fresh-squeezed lemon, the natural botanicals in Pomp & Whimsy just screamed for our new friend, Gin Agricola Evra (which is Italian bred and packed with notes of fresh raspberries & light spearmint). It made spring just dance in our mouth, and we wanted more! Ideally, we eat/drink with our eyes first, so we wanted this to be a visual showstopper just like Georgia’s work. Take it in visually, first, and then hopefully enjoy it just as much once you take a sip. Cheers to us, Women!“

"Women's Hotel"
The history of women's independence can see breakthroughs in various spaces and areas throughout New York City. Women were technically not allowed to check in to an NYC hotel without being accompanied by male companions until the Twentieth Century.
Yet, in 1903, the Martha Washington was built and originally opened under the name "Women's Hotel". It was not set up as a moral home, policing women and their activities but rather, it was a place where independent, working women could stay as they developed their personal, professional, and social lives without the constrictions of men or overarching morals.
We raise our glasses at Tavern 29 to this small but historically significant moment that developed right here on 29th Street and further secured the independence and later equal rights of women.

Women all over the world are finding their way to the top of male-dominated spaces. This drink is inspired by Missy Elliot as she was an absolute trailblazer in such a male-dominated industry. Missy fought her way to the top of the music charts for decades as a singer, rapper, writer, AND producer. And this drink can put up a fight for sure.

Belle Livingstone was one of the leading female speakeasy owners during prohibition, gearing her concepts to cater to the NYC elite. Politicians, mob bosses, and even rival NYC speakeasy owner, Owney Madden, were hand-delivered invitations to each of her openings. Within weeks of opening her third and most elaborate speakeasy, the Fifth-Eighth Country Club, it was raided by the feds. She became a prohibition legend when she famously tried to escape arrest wearing red silk pajamas.
