The morns are meeker than they were,
The nuts are getting brown;
The berry's cheek is plumper,
The rose is out of town.

The maple wears a gayer scarf,
The field a scarlet gown.
Lest I should be old-fashioned,
I'll put a trinket on.

Emily Dickinson, 1830-1886

Hello Darling! Today we are raising our glasses to the autumnal equinox and the first official day of Fall. Whether you are observing the astronomical calendar or following the Gregorian system, one thing is for certain - it’s time to change out our wardrobe and our cocktail menus. Luckily for you, while you’re rummaging in the attic for your signature wool coat and scarlet gown, we’ve assembled the perfect Fall/Winter home cocktail menu with three simple seasonal serves that should see you all the way through the end of the hosting calendar.

THE PICK OF THE PATCH

With shorter days and longer nights, cocktail hour comes pleasantly early during Fall and Winter. Our first signature cocktail, the Bee’s Knees, was popular during Prohibition when scarcity of ingredients meant hostesses had to get creative with their eventide celebrating. A recipe that has thankfully stood the test of time, it’s the perfect marriage of the traditional seasonal remedies of lemon and honey, with the heartiness and goodliness of gin.

BEE’S KNEES

2 oz Pomp & Whimsy Gin Liqueur
¾ oz lemon juice
¼ oz honey

Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker and stir briefly to disperse the honey. Add ice and shake for 15-20 seconds to chill. Strain into a cocktail glass and garnish with a lemon twist. Add an optional sprig of thyme for aromatic interest.

THE OLD CHESTNUT

While some of the year’s biggest celebrations fall during this time of year, thoughtful hostesses still need cocktail options that can fill in during the lower-key moments. In times like these, we always come back to a fail-safe crowd-pleaser, the Pomp & Tonic. Believe it or not, there’s actual science behind why this two-ingredient cocktail is so good (a curious molecular reaction in which the transformation of the whole becomes demonstrably greater than the sum of its parts). Alchemy aside, this season we’re keeping it simple with a classic lemon garnish, still the preferred finishing touch to the formula in much of the old drinking world.

POMP & TONIC

1 ½ oz Pomp & Whimsy Gin Liqueur
3 oz tonic
lemon slice

Serve over ice in a tall glass finishing with a squeeze of the lemon.

THE NEW LEAF

Our final cocktail is your go-to celebratory spritz. As the year comes to its crescendo there’s never a shortage of accomplishments to recognize and moments to commemorate. As we raise our glasses to all we’ve achieved in the year, and to the folks who’ve helped us get there, we look forward to welcoming in the new year with good health and good fortune.

JUBILEE SPRITZ

2 oz Pomp & Whimsy Gin Liqueur
2 oz dry sparkling wine, chilled
lemon twist

Stir the Pomp & Whimsy in a mixing glass with ice to chill. Strain into a coupe and top with sparkling wine. Twist the lemon peel over the surface of the drink to express the oil and release into the glass.
