This Women’s History Month, we’re celebrating from coast to coast with a menu of cocktails created by women, inspired by women, showcasing women-made ingredients. Any of these recipes can be made at home with what’s on hand in the pantry. Even better, head to one of the bars and order it straight off the menu. And don’t forget a to raise a celebratory glass (and drop a congratulatory tip) to the women who created them while you’re there!

AMANTINE

by Emily Lord of Halyards
406 3rd Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11215

“Amantine is the first name of the famous French novelist of the romantic period who wrote under the male pen name of George Sand. She was unruly, a champion of workers' rights and womens' rights, a prolific writer, and someone who Vitor Hugo described as "strong without ceasing to be tender." And if that isn't a perfect way to describe P&W I don't know what is! Pomp & Whimsy has so much character and such, to my palate, bold florals that I wanted to work with it in an elegant way, letting those things stay forward in the profile. Jasmine and Green Tea have long been friends and I softened the loose-leaf brew with a quick infusion of fresh vanilla bean. It's elegant, clean, floral forward, with bold under notes of the bitter tea and rich vanilla” – Emily Lord

1 ½ oz Pomp & Whimsy Gin Liqueur
2 oz vanilla green tea*
½ oz fresh lemon juice

Shake all ingredients with ice into a cocktail shaker, and strain into a cocktail shaker, garnishing with green tea leaves

* For the vanilla tea, Emily recommends Dao Ren loose leaf green tea infused with vanilla bean. However, she also says that ¼ teaspoon of vanilla extract added to 8 oz of green tea will do just as well in a pinch.

STAR HOUSE TEA

by Patricia Ahn of Sek’end Sun
32-11 Broadway, Queens, NY 11106

“This cocktail is named for Marsha P Johnson and Sylvia Rivera, known for the Stonewall uprising. They founded the STAR HOUSE which was the first LGBTQ+ youth center in the US. Pomp & Whimsy works because the tea actually brings out the flavors that already exist in the liqueur.  A small amount of Civic vodka is used to booze it up a bit while maintaining a neutral yet clean flavor.” - Patricia Ahn

1 oz Pomp & Whimsy Gin Liqueur
¾ oz Civic Vodka
5 oz warm tea*

Pour the warm tea over the liquor ingredients in a mug or tea cup and stir
* To make the tea steep the following ingredients in 2 litres of hot water:
1 orange cut into wheels
1 lemon cut into wheels
1 lime cut into wheels
5 slices cucumber wheels
1 tbsp dried rose buds
1 tbsp dried hibiscus

LOVE ME OR LEAVE ME

by Steviee Hughes for Seventy 7 Lounge
3843 Main St, Culver City, CA 90232

“Did you know that the human voice is the only pure instrument? That it has notes no other instrument has? It’s like being between the keys of a piano.” - Nina Simone.  “This cocktail is a little twist on a classic sidecar cocktail and is inspired by Nina Simone. She was known as the “High Priestess of Soul” and her songs about love, protest and black empowerment won the hearts of many becoming a leading voice of the Civil Rights Movement. She always shared her truth and inspired countless other famous performers.” - Steviee Hughes

1 ½ oz Pomp & Whimsy Gin Liqueur
1 ½ oz Castarede Armagnac
¾ oz Fresh Lemon Juice
1 oz egg white

Dip a cocktail glass in lemon juice and then into sugar to create a rim.  Add the ingredients to a cocktail shaker without ice and shake. Add ice to the shaker and shake a second time. Strain into the prepared cocktail glass.

THE RB GINS-BURG

by Audrey Jewell for Lagniappe
4810 1st Coast Hwy, Amelia Island, FL 32034

“This cocktail is the RB Gins-burg. The Pomp & Whimsy makes the “gin” and the large ice cube creates the “Burg”, ice berg. Get it?! This is a tribute to my hero, the late Ruth Bader Ginsburg and her tireless fight for gender equality. I created this cocktail with that in mind. Pomp & Whimsy is the perfect spirit for this drink as its flavors are delicate, yet complex; mellow, yet quite expressive. The flavors in this cocktail bring together the bright citrus and cucumber with the kick and the dramatic flavor bursts that you get with Pomp and Whimsy, making it the perfect cocktail for women, men, and everyone in between. Cheers to you RBG!” - Audrey Jewell

1 ¼ oz Pomp & Whimsy Gin Liqueur
1 oz gin
¼ oz simple syrup
2 fresh lemon slices
2 fresh cucumber slices

Gently muddle the lemon and cucumber together in a shaker tin, add ice and all remaining ingredients. Shake and strain over a large ice cube in a coupe glass. Garnish with a lemon twist and an edible flower.
