MOTHER OF ALL BRUNCH MENUS

A Menu of Cocktails for Spring Brunches

Hello Darling! You may have heard the well-proven and documented fact that all mothers love brunch! And the mother of all brunches is surely the brunch of late spring and early summer. There is something deeply pleasant and rewarding in that combination of brilliant blooms and cheerful birdsong, with the high sun and crisp air, that gets us metaphorically and literally throwing open the patio doors and kissing goodbye to the winter gloom. And when it comes to spring brunch, we firmly believe there is not one cocktail that works, but a whole menu. For it shouldn’t have to be Mother’s Day to celebrate the best of the weekend with Mother’s Day brunch.

MODERN SPRITZ

Born for toasting in the open air, the Modern Spritz is the perfect mimosa, meets spritz, meets fizz breakfast aperitif that has moms across the continents to thank for its enduring legacy on the morning menu. A simple combination of liqueur, juice, and sparkling wine, it can be adapted to suit all tastes and seasons. Try one with a dash of grapefruit, orange, peach, or cranberry juice for a perfect start to a perfect morning.

1 ½ oz Pomp & Whimsy Gin Liqueur
3 oz sparkling wine
1 oz fresh grapefruit juice (or other juice)

Build ingredients one by one over ice in a wine glass, stirring gently to mix. Garnish with fresh fruit and herbs.

WHIPPET

The old saying used to go that life in Hollywood is easy if you’re a grapefruit, but it’s not just the stars and starlets of the silver screen that have a penchant for the bitter fruit. Moms have been enjoying the benefits of grapefruit with their breakfast for close to a century. And indeed, the harmonious balance of sweet and tart is the ideal base for a breakfast cocktail. Take our favorite example from the genre, the Whippet. Lower in ABV than the rest of the menu, it’s simply a lighter way to start the day.

1 ½ oz Pomp & Whimsy Gin Liqueur
1 ½ oz grapefruit juice
1 ½ oz tonic or club soda
lime wedge

Pour ingredients one by one over ice in a highball glass, garnish with a squeezed lime wedge

MOTHER GIN MARTINI

When your mother is less mother superior and more a superior mother, the martini is likely to be her brunch cocktail of choice. Gerald Ford once described the three-martini lunch as the epitome of American efficiency, arguing “Where else can you get an earful, a bellyful, and a snootful at the same time?”. However, at this Mother’s Day brunch we’ll go one better by saying that breakfast and drinks with mom are a heartful, joyful and thankful celebration, and the epitome of the maternal-filial adult bond.

2 oz Pomp & Whimsy Organic Gin
¼ oz Pomp & Whimsy Gin Liqueur
grapefruit twist

Combine ingredients in a mixing glass or cocktail tin and fill with ice. Stir well to chill. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and twist a piece of grapefruit peel over the drink for aromatic garnish.
